Coffee Mugs printed using 'screen printing'.

Coffee Mugs printed using 'screen printing'.What is involved in the process of 'screen printing' onto coffee mugs, and why would you use this method as opposed to other methods you hear about?

Screen printing is ideal for:

  • Earthenware products
  • Either large or small production runs
  • Bone China

Screen printing is not so good for:

  • Complex, half tones

Screen printing is easily the most popular method for personalising your coffee mugs. An image, usually consisting of just one or two line colours, but capable of using four colours, is printed within a specified area directly onto the rotating body of the mug.

The screen printing method is most commonly used when:

  • The design is simple
  • There are no complex half-tones
  • The registration is not over demanding
  • The design is not required to be larger than the print area

There are limitations with this process and it is primarily used for the budget side of the earthenware market.
